abstract |
Essentially pure DNA and DNA-containing plasmids comprising protein coding sequences having hormone binding and / or transcription activation characteristics of a glucocorticoid receptor, a mineralocorticoid receptor or a thyroid hormone receptor. Also described are receptor proteins and modified functional forms of these proteins. The invention also allows for biological analysis to determine the functionality of a receptor protein, and describes new methods of producing the desired proteins in modified cells using genetic engineering techniques. One method is to induce transcription of a gene whose transcription is activated by hormones complexed with receptors; a second method makes it possible to modify a cell and to increase and regulate the production of a protein coded by a gene whose transcription is activated by hormones complexed with receptor proteins. |
