abstract Sulfuric acid and nitric acid are separated from dinitrotoluenes obtained during the dinitration of toluene with mixed acid and dinitrotoluenes containing the dinitrotoluenes obtained after the removal of the main amount of sulfuric acid and nitric acid, up to 6% by weight sulfuric acid and up to 5% by weight % Containing nitric acid, mixed with up to 10% by weight of water, based on the amount of dinitrotoluenes, and the aqueous phase containing sulfuric acid and nitric acid which then separates off is separated off.
