abstract | Compounds of the formula wherein R₁ is lower alkyl substituted by hydroxy or protected hydroxy, R₂ is carboxyl or functionally modified carboxyl, R₃ is hydrogen, amino, mono- or di-substituted amino, carbamoyl, hydroxy, protected hydroxy, carbamoyloxy, lower alkoxy, halogen, lower alkanoyl, sulfamoyl or heteroarylthio is, R₄ and R₅ independently of one another represent hydrogen, lower alkyl, hydroxy, protected hydroxy, lower alkoxy, halogen, amino, protected amino, lower alkanoylamino or carbamoyl or together represent methylenedioxy, Y is a group of the formula -O-, -S- or -NR₆ -means, R₆ is hydrogen or lower alkyl, A₁ is lower alkylene or optionally substituted phenylene and A₂ is a direct bond or means lower alkylene and salts of such compounds have antibacterial activity.
