abstract | A liquid-crystalline polymer comprising the nrepeating units of the general formula (I) n nin which : nk is an integer from 1 to 30 ; and nR¹ is n nwhere : nX is -COO- or -OCO- ; and nR² is -COOR³, OCOR³, or -OR³ nwhere : nR³ is n nR⁴ and R⁵ being each independently -CH₃, a halogen radical, nor -CN, m and n being each independently an integer from 0 n n nto 10 with the proviso that n is not 0 when R⁴ is -CH₃, p nbeing 0 or 1, and C marked with * being an asymmetric ncarbon atom. n The polymers of the present invention exhibit a nferroelectricity even at temperatures around room ntemperature and as well have such a high speed of response nto external factors that they can be used for displaying nmotion pictures, and the polymers may also be nadvantageously used as display elements for large displays nor curved displays. |
