Agents based on alkyltrialkoxysilanes or their condensation products are suitable for improving the hydrophobic properties of inorganic materials. These funds include: a) at least one alkyltrialkoxysilane with 8 to 18 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical and 1 to 3 carbon atoms in the alkoxy radicals or condensation products thereof, which on average still contain 0 to 2 alkoxy radicals per silicon atom, together with at least one further component which is selected from: b) an alcohol or a hydrocarbon or hydrocarbon mixture as solvent and c) at least one alkyltrialkoxysilane with 1 to 7 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical and 1 to 3 carbon atoms in the alkoxy radicals or condensation products thereof, which still contain an average of 0 to 2 alkoxy radicals per silicon atom. n n n If appropriate, the agents also contain at least one hydrolysis catalyst.
