Alkylation catalysts and processes |
abstract |
A process for treating a molecular sieve-containing nalkylation catalyst to increase its selectivity for nmonoalkylation in which the alkylation catalyst is contacted nwith a feedstock comprising at least one organic compound nunder conditions such that a sufficient amount of carbonnaceous material evenly deposits on the alkylation catalyst nto substantially suppress its alkylation activity. nThe carbon-containing catalyst particles are then subjected nto combustion by contacting them with a gaseous oxidizing nagent at an elevated temperature to remove at least na portion of the carbonaceous material, preferably subsntantially all of the carbonaceous material, thereby nincreasing the selectivity of the catalyst for monoaklylnation by at least about 1.0 percentage point. The resulting nalkylation catalyst can be used to alkylate benzene nand other aromatic compounds with ethylene, propylene nor other olefins to produce high yields of ethylbenzene, ncumene and other alkylated products. Preferably, the nalkylation catalyst contains an ammonium-exchanged and nsteam stabilized Y zeolite. |
