abstract A composition useful for molding into articles nsuch as food containers, soft drink bottles, cured nstructural plastics and the like, comprising molding nor fiber grade linear or unsaturated polyester or npolycarbonate having copolymerized therein a total of nfrom 1.0 to about 5,000 ppm, of the reactant residue nmoieties of one or a mixture of bis-methine reactants nof the formula nM¹=HC-=Ar¹-CH=M² nwherein nAr¹ is an unsubstituted or substituted n1,4-phenylene radical; and nM¹ and M² are the same or different and each nis a disubstituted methylene group having the nstructure n nwherein n n-Ar²-R⁴; and nR² is - n-X-R⁴ or -Ar²-R⁵; nwherein nR³ is hydrogen, allyl or an unsubstituted or nsubstituted alkyl, cycloalkyl or phenyl radical; nX is a divalent alkylene, cycloalkylene or nphenylene radical or a combination thereof which may n n ninclude within the divalent chain one or two atoms or nradicals selected from -O-, -S-, -SO₂, n wherein nR⁶ is an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, ncycloalkyl or phenyl radical; nR⁴ is a group that is reactive with one of the nmonomers from which the condensation polymer is nprepared; nAr² is an unsubstitued or substituted nphenylene or heterocyclic arylene radical; nR⁵ is hydrogen, R⁴ or -X-R⁴; nwherein the bis-methine moiety absorbs radiation nsignificantly in the range of 250 to 390 nm and is nnon-extractable from said polymer and is stable under nthe conditions the polymer is prepared or processed.
