The invention relates to a preparation for use in the treatment of enteric disorders in animals including man, to a process for producing the composition and to a kit suitable for use in producing the composition. The preparation comprises non-thermophilic naturally occurring lactic acid bacteria which are selected from the phenotypes of the following species, namely: Lactobacillus bavaricus , Lactobacillus casei ssp. rhamnosus , Lactobacillus coryneformis , Lactobacillus curvatus , Lactobacillus sake , Streptococcus sp. [ Enterococcus spp. ] and Leuconostoc spp . The method of producing the preparation comprises the steps of sampling the digestive tract contents of a ruminant and cultivating and enriching same for lactic acid bacteria contained therein and using the cultivated mixture in the treatment or prophylaxis of enteric disorders. |
