titleOfInvention | BONE-SEEKING COMPLEXES OF TECHNETIUM-99m |
abstract | A composition for use in the preparation of a bone visualization agent comprises a mixture of a bisphosphonic acid of formula (I), wherein R1 and R3 may be the same or different groups selected from H, -SO3H and a lower aliphatic group optionally containing one or more hetero atoms and containing at least one -SO3H group; R2 is a group selected from H, -OH, -NH2, -NHMe, -NMe2 and lower alkyl optionally substituted by one or more polar groups; R4 is a group selected from H, -OH, -NH2, -NHMe, -NMe2, -SO3H and lower alkyl optionally substituted by one or more polar groups; n is 0 or 1; provided that when n is 0, R1 is not H and when n is 1, R1 and R3 cannot both be H. Also disclosed is a non-toxic salt of said composition, as well as a reducing agent for pertechnetate ions. Technetium-99m, in the form of an aqueous solution of pertechnetate ions, is added to the composition to form a complex of Tc-99m and bisphosphonate. This complex is useful as a bone tissue visualization agent and is rapidly absorbed by these tissues, giving high definition images. |
