abstract | imidazoles of formula (I) and their salts are new, where R1 is lower alkyl, cycloalkyl or phenyl-lower alkyl; R2 is 2,6-dimethyl-1,5- heptadienyl or 2,6-dimethylheptyl; except when R1 is phenyl-lower alkyl, R2 is not 2,6-dimethyl-1,5-heptadienyl. The following cpds. are specifically claimed 1-benzyl-5-(2,6- dimethylheptyl)imidazole; 1-methyl-5-(2,6-dimethyl -1,5-heptadienyl)-imidazole; 1-sec-butyl-5-(2,6-dimethyl-1,5-heptadienyl) imidazole; 1-cyclohexyl-5-(2,6-dimethyl- 1,5-heptadienyl) imidazole and nine others. Reaction of an imine of formula R2CH:NR1 with (p-toluenesulphonyl)methyl isocyanide (TosMIC), cpds. where R2 is 2,6-dimethylheptyl may be made by hydrogenation of the corresp. (I) with R2 is 2,6-dimethyl-1,5 -heptadienyl. |
