titleOfInvention | Cephalosporin compounds, process for their preparation and pharmaceutical compositions containing them |
abstract | Cephalosporin compounds having a 3-position nsubstituent of the formula (I) are described: n-CH₂-Y-Q (I) nwherein Y is a linking group -NR⁴CO-Y′-, -NR⁴SO₂-Y′-, -OCO-Y;- nor -SCO-Y′- wherein R⁴ is hydrogen, various optionally nsubstituted alkyl groups or alkenyl and Y′ is a bond or various noptionally substituted alkylene or alkenylene groups; and nQ is a benzene ring (optionally fused to a further benzene nring so forming a naphthyl group or optionally fused to a 5 or n6 membered heterocyclic aromatic group containing 1, 2 or 3 nheteroatoms selected from nitrogen, oxygen and sulphur), said nbenzene ring (or in the case of naphthyl either benzene ring) nbeing substituted by groups R¹ and R² which are ortho with nrespect to one another, wherein R¹ is hydroxy or an in vivo nhydrolysable ester thereof and R² is hydroxy, an in vivo nhydrolysable ester thereof, carboxy, sulpho, hydroxymethyl, nmethanesulphonamido or ureido; or Q is a group of the formula n(II) or (III): n nwherein M is oxygen or a group NR³ nwherein R³ is hydrogen or C 1-4 alkyl; ring Q being further noptionally substituted. n The use of such compounds as antibacterial agents is ndescribed as are processes for their preparation and nintermediates therefor. |
