abstract | A process for producing 2-chloropropionaldehyde by hydroformylation of vinyl chloride using a rhodium catalyst combined with a base, which comprises keeping the concentration of 2-chloropropionaldehyde produced in the reaction solution at a level of not higher than 10 % to thereby markedly improve catalyst activity. The reaction can be continued for a long time with the catalyst activity kept at a high level by conducting the reaction in a water-insoluble or slightly water-soluble solvent simultaneously with extraction with water, separating 2-chloropropionaldehyde present in the extract by distillation or the like to reduce its concentration to a given level or below, and recycling the extract after anion exchange treatment. |
