abstract Styrene and hydroquinone are reacted to produce (1-phenylethyl) hydroquinone, of formula (I). The crude reaction product, i.e. (1-phenylethyl) hydroquinone, and the unreacted reactants are then distilled under vacuum to obtain a fraction composed essentially of (1-phenylethyl) hydroquinone. The vacuum distillation is carried out in the presence of an organic diluent which is distilled at the same time as the hydroquinone which has not reacted under the vacuum distillation conditions.
