abstract |
A substantially homogeneous random vinyl acetate copolymer comprising the following general structure:n wherein R is hydrogen or methyl; nR¹ is hydrogen or methyl; nR² is hydrogen, C₁-C₂₀ alkyl, C₆-C₂₀ aryl or C₇-C₃₀ alkylaryl; nn is a number from 1-1,000; ny is 50-99.999 mole%; and nz is 0.001-50 mole%. n The vinyl acetate copolymer is hydrolyzed to provide a substantially random homogeneous vinyl alcohol copolymer that can be thermoplastically processed into shaped articles possessing good gas barrier properties. |
