abstract | An improved magnetic recording medium is provided with a layer comprised of finely divided particles dispersed in a binder comprised of at least 5% crosslinked dispersing polymer comprised of units derived fromn i) one or more vinyl aromatic monomers and one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomer having aliphatic hydroxyl functionality, or ii) one or more vinyl aromatic monomers having hydroxyl functionality, and npreferably having a degree of polymerization greater than about 100. The layer may be on a flexible, semi-rigid, or rigid support base. A stable fluid, reactive dispersion of finely divided magnetic particles in the crosslinkable dispersing polymer can be mixed with a crosslinker to provide a curable composition useful in preparing magnetic recording media. The curable composition also preferably contains multi-hydroxyl-functional polyurethane as a soft-component contributing cobinder resin. |
