titleOfInvention | PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF EQUIGRANULAR ION EXCHANGE RESINS FOR ANALYSIS AND PREPARATION PURPOSES. |
abstract | The process described here consists in polymerizing a mixture of styrene and divinylbenzene in the presence of a catalyst or peroxide and of a protective colloid in an aqueous medium devoid of ions, in eliminating the volatile impurities, in sulphonating under moderate conditions the spherical bead polymer obtained, removing the sulfuric acid medium gradually with water, chloromethylating the bead polymer with excess chloromethyl ether and decomposing with ammonia twice. The raw resin is suspended in an aqueous solution of surfactants and then centrifuged, and the aqueous medium is then replaced by an alcoholic medium in the pores of the resin, the dried resin is subjected to separation by air blowing, the product thus obtained is fractionated by wet sedimentation, after which a separation of the product fraction whose particle size variation is between U 0.5 microns is carried out, the dried resin is first treated in a mixture of ethanol, methyl ethyl ether glycolic and water at 50oC then at 100oC with NaOH, after which it is boiled with HCl; the fractionated resin is poured into a chromatography column, the column is treated with an organic aqueous solution containing ions of increasing then decreasing bond strength, and the resin is then subjected to an acid-alkaline treatment by a process known per se. |
