abstract Pneumatic vibrating diaphragm pumps having a housing (12, 14) having an upper chamber (17) having an orifice (59) through which air can be admitted from outside the housing, and a lower chamber (16) having an orifice (N) through which air can escape from the housing, a rotor (22) oscillating inside the lower chamber for actuating a diaphragm (28b, 30b) of at least one set of diaphragms and valves (28, 30), and drive means (80, 20) for causing the oscillatory movement of the rotor. Each set of diaphragms and valves is arranged so as to produce the air which it is to pump from the upper chamber and to discharge it into the lower chamber after which the discharged air flows through said outlet orifice. A vent (70, 74, 76) is provided to allow the return of air from the container in which it has been evacuated from the housing, and its exhaust from the latter when the pump is not operating.
