abstract An aqueous acid gas scrubbing composition comprises (a) at least one alkali metal salt, suitably potassium carbonate, and (b) at least one defined primary sterically hindered amino acid. Examples are 2-aminoisobutyric acid; 4-amino- 4 methyl pentanoic acid; and 1-amino-cyclopentane carboxylic acid. A pentavalent vanadium compound may also be present as a corrosion inhibitor.
