titleOfInvention Method for purifying exhaust gases of a combustion engine by means of a catalytic system, and apparatus making use of this method
abstract The invention relates to a method for exhaust gas detoxification of an internal combustion engine (1) using a catalytic system which contains carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and hydrocarbons in its exhaust gas mixture as main pollutant components. The main pollutant components CO and NOx are separated from their resulting relationship, quantitatively influencing the formation of the main pollutant components individually by regulation and then combined so that the composition of the exhaust gas mixture according to the proportions of the pollutant components enables the complete catalytic afterburning of the same in a known manner. An internal combustion engine (1) has at least two combustion chambers (4,5; 6,7) with fuel processing systems (12,13), which regulate the combustion processes with regard to the proportions of the main pollutant components so that quantitatively determined pollutant fractions in the exhaust gases are preferred, which occur after Merge practically completely detoxified with known catalytic systems. In an internal combustion engine based on the auto-ignition principle, if the main pollutant component CO is not sufficient, additional CO from a separate CO source can be added to the catalytic converter to completely detoxify the exhaust gas mixture.
