Semipermeable composite membranes produced from silicone water based emulsions applied to porous substrates |
abstract |
The invention relates to the formation of semipermeable composite membranes produced by applying a curable silicone (polyorganosiloxane) water based micro or macro emulsion to a porous substrate, evaporating the aqueous components of the emulsions, and allowing the emulsified siloxane particles to coalesce and to crosslink to form a cured film on the porous substrate. Because the curable silicone water based emulsion is essentially free of organic solvent it can be applied to solvent sensitive natural and synthetic substrates. The composite membranes produced are useful for the separation of fluids. |
