abstract The invention relates to new particles based on methacrylic polymer or copolymer. The nanoparticles are of substantially spherical shape, with an average diameter of between 100 and 600 nm, of homogeneous distribution (monodispersed system), and comprise at least one recurring unit of general formula (I) below: <IMAGE> in which R represents a hydrogen atom or a linear or branched alkyl group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or an alkyl group substituted by a hydroxy, carboxy or ester group, optionally comprising one or more ethylenic double bonds, at least one repeating units comprising at least one free carboxyl and / or hydroxyl group. Application as a drug carrier, diagnostic reagent and contrast agent in medical imaging.
