A filter comprises a non-porous support member open at one end and a porous disc rigidly attached to the support member at another, preferably smaller end thereof. The disc may be formed from fibers preferably between about 0.5 and 50 micrometers thick, or may be formed from a plurality of particles or beads retained by a pair of membranes. When the disc is relatively small, having a diameter of about 1 millimeter for example, it can be compressed into a constricted end of the support member. When the disc has a larger diameter, it can be rigidly supported by a retainer made of a crosslinked material and welded to the support member. A plurality of containers can be placed in a tray. Fluid can be passed through the filters by subjecting the tray and filters to centrifugal force. |
