The nucleotice sequence of the genome of Human T-cell Lymphotropic Virus Type III, the infectious agent etiologically associated with acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), contains a small open reading frame, termed sor, which is located between the pol and env genes. A method for the production of a plasmid containing the nucleotide sequences of the sor gene, a method for bacterially synthesizing sor protein, a method for producing antibodies which specifically bind to the sor protein, and a test kit utilizing the sor protein are disclosed. |
