The multilayered composite wound dressing comprises nof a semipermeable membrane (10), optionally with a npermeable supporting and reinforcing layer, and a non-nstick, self-sealing biodegradable tissue interface (11). nThe semipermeable membrane may be a synthetic collagen, nan alginate or a biocompatible polymer and it controls nthe rate of water vapour transmission from the wound nsurface. The permeable supporting and reinforcing layer nprovides mechanical strength and is usually a textile nfabric. The biodegradable tissue interface may be nsynthetic collagen, sodium-calcium alginate or collagen-nalginate complex, and it provides non-stick haemostatic nsealing and aids the wound repair processes. For topical nmedication, growth promoting, antibacterial, antinallergic and therapeutic agents may also be incorporated. |
