titleOfInvention | PRODUCTION OF ASCORBIC ACID FROM 2-KETO-L-GLUCONIC ACID. |
abstract | A method of producing L-ascorbic acid includes (a) forming a substantially anhydrous slurry of 2-keto-1-gulonic acid and a surfactant in an organic support layer and (b) reacting of this sludge with a substantially anhydrous acid catalyst in order to convert this 2-keto-1-gulonic acid to L-ascorbic acid. L-ascorbic acid is produced in relatively large amounts in a relatively short period of time by the conversion of 2-keto-l-gulonic acid to L-ascorbic acid by acid catalysis of 2-keto-1 acid -gulonic under substantially anhydrous conditions. |
