An improvement in the use of bioresorbable polymers for implantation into living tissue is described, characterized in that a particular molecular weight range is selected that demonstrates an unexpectedly beneficial effect on cell growth and regeneration of function. High molecular weight bioresorbable polymers composed of one or more alpha-hydroxy carboxylic acids may be fashioned into implantation devices such as nerve channels, to promote the processes of neuronal growth and regeneration of function in severed nerves. |
