abstract A herbicidal and plant growth-regulating agent contains 2-benzoyl-2-phenyl-oxiranes of the formula I <IMAGE> as active ingredient, in which m and n each independently of one another zero, one, two or three, R and R 'each independently of one another a halogen atom, a C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, C1-C4-haloalkyl, C1-C4-haloalkoxy or the nitro or cyano group or a (R) m) substituted phenyl radical, as a racemate or as an optically active enantiomer . Some oxiranes have become known as intermediates for the production of fungicidal active ingredients, others are new. The herbicidal agent acts selectively in rice crops and is grass-active.
