A carrier for a catalyst wherein a mass of silicon dioxide particles molded into a predetermined configuration are fused together by a bonding compound selected from the group consisting of sodium metaborĀate, potassium borate, ammonium borate and sodium tetraborate, A preferred use for the carrier is in the support of a potassium/vanadium catalyst for oxidizing sulfur dioxide to sulfur trioxide. The catalyst carrier exhibits superior resistance to attrition. |
