EXPRESSION AND DIAGNOSIS WITH GAG-CODED PEPTIDES THAT ARE IMMUNOLOGICALLY REACTIVE WITH ANTIBODIES AGAINST LAV. |
abstract |
Immunologically reactive LAV gag proteins are expressed in bacterial cells. The gag proteins are encoded by a recombinant plasmid containing prokaryotic transcription and translation signals allowing for expression, followed downstream by a DNA sequence comprising part of the gag region of LAV. Preferential expression signals are selected from an inducible and / or suppressible operon such as the trp operon. The gag proteins are isolated from the bacterial host and are used in diagnostic tests for detecting LAV antigens or antibodies reacting immunologically with LAV. On the other hand, the proteins produced by the process described can be used as vaccines against the infection caused by the virus causing the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. |
