titleOfInvention Non-invasive determination of mechanical characteristics in the body
abstract A system and method are used to induce vibrations in a selected element of the human body and to detect the nature of the reactions obtained in order to determine the mechanical characteristics of this element. The method includes inducing vibrations at multiple frequencies, including frequencies below 20 KHz, in a selected element of the body, in one embodiment, for example, the carotid artery (40, Fig. 1) using an exciter (1); determining the parameters of the vibrations applied by the exciter to the body; detecting variations in a dimension of the body element as a function of time, including reaction to the exciter; correlating the variations with the frequency components resulting from the operation of the exciter less than 20 KHz in order to determine the corresponding frequency components of the variations; solving the frequency components into components in the form of the vibration mode; and determining the mechanical characteristics of the element based on the parameters of the vibrations applied by the exciter and the components of the shape of the vibration mode.
