There are 5-aralkyl-substituted 2-hydroxyphenyl-2H-benzotriazoles of the formula I. wherein R, and R 2 independently of one another are hydrogen, halogen, alkyl having 1 to 18 carbon atoms or a group of the formula II where E and E2 independently of one another represent hydrogen or alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms and E3 represents hydrogen, halogen or alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, with the proviso that at least one of R and R 2 is a group of the formula II got to; R 3 is hydrogen, hydroxyl, alkyl having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, alkoxy having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, phenyl optionally substituted by one, two or three alkyl groups having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl having 5 to 6 carbon atoms, carboalkoxy having 2 to 9 carbon atoms, Chlorine, carboxyethyl or a group of the formula II, R 4 is hydrogen, alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkoxy having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, chlorine or hydroxyl and R s is hydrogen, hydroxyl, alkyl having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, chlorine, cycloalkyl having 5 are up to 6 carbon atoms or a group of the formula II, with the proviso that R 3 , R 4 and R 5 may not all simultaneously be hydrogen and that only one of R 3 , R 4 and R 5 can be hydroxyl, described. These compounds can be used to protect organic substrates against light-induced degradation. |
