Antigenic modification of polypeptides |
abstract |
Modified polypeptides capable of provoking the formnation of antibodies in an animal may be produced by forming na linear polymer of polypeptide fragments, each having a nmolecular structure similar to a fragment of the protein to nwhich antibodies are to be provoked. Such linear polymers ncan be made more immunogenic than the proteins to which nthey are related without introducing undesirable extraneous nmaterials into the animal being treated, but have reproducnable immunogenic properties. Protein which are not endogennous or immunogenic to an animal can be chemically modinfied so as to make them more immunogenic. Also, modified nantigens useful for fertility control can be produced by chemincal modification of zona pellucida or sperm antigens. These nmodified polypeptides, antigens and modified antigens are ndesirably administered in the form of a vaccine having a vehnicle comprising a mixture of mannide monooleate with nSqualene and/or Squalene. |
