titleOfInvention Process for the preparation of 6-dioxy-d-glucose
abstract 6-deoxy-D-glucose, an intermediate useful for the preparation ofnFuraneol (registered trademark of Firmenich SA, Geneva), is prepared bynhalogenation of methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside using phosgene tonpresence of N, N-dimethylformamide and hydrogenolysis of the resulting chlorine derivative.n n n According to a variant of said process, the chlorinated derivative is convertednas a corresponding iodinated or brominated derivative before its hydrogenolysis. Its derivativesniodinated, respectively brominated, can be obtained as intermediates ofntransition following a cathodic reduction reaction of the chlorinated compound intonpresence of sodium iodide in N, N-dimethylformamide.n n n The desired 6-deoxy-D-glucose is finally obtained by hydrolysis of thenresulting product in an acid medium.
