Method for screening blood to control aids transmission |
abstract |
Blood collected for storage and subsequent transfusion is analyzed for its potential to transmit AIDS by determining if there is abnormal purine recovery enzyme activity in red blood cells. If the activities of adenosine deaminase (ADA) and / or purine nucleoside phosphorylase (PNP) are elevated, the blood is suspect and should not be used unless other tests demonstrate safety. |
