abstract Liquid crystalline phases (LC phases) have a particularly low threshold tension, a particularly low K3/K1 ratio between the elastic constants for the flexion (K3) and the expansion (K1) and wide nematic phase ranges. Said phases have at the same time at least one strong polar component having a reduced association degree to reduce the quotient K3/K1 of the elastic constants for the flexion (K3) and the expansion (K1) of the phases down to a value lower or equal to 1.1, and at least one liquid non polar crystalline component.
