titleOfInvention Acrylic polymers containing hydrolyzable moieties from organosilane compounds
abstract Disclosed is an ungelled acrylic resin composition conntaining an acrylic polymer having in a molecule thereof at nleast one group containing a silicon atom selected from: n nwherein each R independently is selected from the group of nmoieties consisting of Y, hydrogen, a C₁-C₁₀ group joined to nSi through an Si-C linkage, and OR⁷ in which R⁷ represents nalkyl having at least 4 carbon atoms, aryl, alkylaryl, arylnalkyl, aryloxyalkyl, or alkyloxyalkyl, wherein Y represents nan easily hydrolyzable group. n The acrylic resin composition, contains an amount of neasily hydrolyzable Y moieties such that the ratio of the nnumber of grams of the ungelled acrylic resin composition nto equivalent of easily hydrolyzable Y moieties in the unngelled acrylic resin composition is in a range of from 40 to n667. Preferred acrylic resin compositions of the invention ncan be cured in the presence of atmospheric moisture and na suitable catalyst at a temperature of less than or equal to n121 degrees Celsius within 3 hours. n Disclosed is a method for producing the ungelled acrylnic resin composition. n Also disclosed is a nonaqueous composition, parnticularly a nonaqueous coating composition, containing the nungelled acrylic resin composition. Preferred coating comnpositions containing an ungelled acrylic resin composition ncan be cured in the presence of atmospheric moisture and na suitable catalyst at a temperature of less than or equal to n121 degrees C within 3 hours.
