Process for the preparation of alkyl oxiranes |
abstract |
A new process for the preparation of alkyloxiranes of the formula wherein R is C 1 -C 12 alkyl, by reacting an aliphatic aldehyde of the formula wherein R is C 1 -C 12 alkyl, with a sulfonium salt of the formula wherein X is C 1 -C 18 alkyl and Y⊖ for a counter anion, in the presence of an aqueous alkali hydroxide solution is characterized in that the reaction is carried out in such a way that the alkali hydroxide solution is presented, the aldehyde and the sulfonium salt simultaneously adds in equimolar amounts and selects the methosulfate anion H 3 CO-SO 2 -O⊖ as counter anion. |
