abstract |
An early summer meningoencephalitis virus (TBE virus) vaccine is described which contains glycoprotein E in an immunogenic form in an inactivated preparation of the TBE virus, and a method for its production. Since not all structural proteins present in the virus are necessary for the induction of protective immunity, a suspension containing the virus is treated with a detergent or an organic solvent, the virus dissociating and the protective glycoprotein E being contained as the active component. Before or after the dissociation or solubilization, inactivation with formalin or β-propiolactone is carried out; isolation of the glycoprotein E can be carried out by additional fractionation measures, with non-protective protein components being separated off. |
