titleOfInvention Apparatus combining external counterpulsation massage and external cardiac massage
abstract A combinated device is provided for a microncomputerized and enhanced type of external counternpulsation and extrathoracic cardiac massage apparatus. nIn addition to balloons for the 4 limbs, the device ncomprises a pair of lower-abdomen-buttock ballons nand a chest balloon. It is controlled by microcomputer nprocess. The various sets of balloons are sequentially ninflated from the distal portion to the proximal porntion during the diastolic period of the heart beat. The npressure is applied from the distal to the proximal nportion gradually onto the 4 limbs, lower abdomen butntock and lower portion of the sternm. At the beginning nof the cardiac systole all of the balloon deflate nsimultaneously. The cycle is then repeated. This denvice is used for the treatment of diseases of the heart, nthe brain, the kidneys, the ischemic disease of the nretina and the peripheral vascular disease with appanrent curative effect. For those cases of sudden carndiac arrest, the computer gives orders according to nneed, so that the above-mentioned sets of balloons nexert pressure sequentially from the distal portion nto the proximal portion to force the blood to the nabdomen, the chest and the head. Thereafter the device ndeflates suddenly, and then again the balloons sequenntially inflate from the proximal portion to the distal nportion to force blood back to the lower portion of nthe body. Thus the circulation goes on wavelike in nsuccession to support adequate output as well as adenquate cardiac blood inflow, and improves the effect of nresuscitation.
