The present invention relates to a method for determining total serum digoxin using a combination of centrifugal ultrafiltration and a dissociation agent in order to cleave the digoxin bound to the serum proteins. A number of compounds, either alone or in combination, have been found to be effective in separating the protein-bound digoxin from the serum proteins. Examples of such effective dissociation agents include quinidine, vitamin E, (a-tocopherol), lower alkanols and C 3 -C 26 fatty acids, and particularly preferably long chain saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. |
