titleOfInvention A sealable fluid containment assembly
abstract A hermetically sealable container (10) is intended to receive a fluid. Fluids, such as compressed gases, are generally stored in a base container (12) having a shoulder (22) with a neck (24) projecting outward from the shoulder. According to the invention, a collar (14) surrounds the neck and rests on the shoulder of the base container. A locking arrangement is provided for securing the collar to the base container. A closure member (16) in the form of a protective cap mates with the collar. To prevent leakage of fluid between the collar and the base container, a seal (76) is mounted between the mating surfaces of the base container and the collar. The leakage of gas between the collar and the closure member is also prevented by a second hermetic seal disposed between the respective mating surfaces of the closure member and the collar.
