abstract |
An article that can be used as a body implant is made of a multi-phase polymer composition comprising: a) a first phase of a substantially non-hydrophilic polymer component; and b) a second phase of a hydrophilic polymer component. Said composition (i) is capable of absorbing water to such an extent that it softens in a softening proportion of at least 2: 1 approximately and / or swells in a swelling proportion of at least 1.3: 1 approximately; and (ii) when fully hydrated has a breaking strength equal to at least 700N-cm / cm3 and a secant modulus at 2.5% of less than approximately 7000N / cm2. |
