titleOfInvention | NON-PRIMARY EXPLOSIVE DETONATOR AND ITS INITIATING ELEMENT. |
abstract | A non-primary explosive detonator comprises a hollow tube (1) with a closed end having a cavity which contains a basic secondary explosive charge (8), and with an opposite end open through which the ignition element (9, 15 , 16) is inserted, and with an intermediate compartment adjacent to said cavity and containing an initiator charge (7), with a delay composition (6) optionally disposed adjacent to said initiator charge. What characterizes the detonator is the fact that the compartment contains a secondary initiating explosive charge (7) which reduces the common drawbacks of primary initiating explosive charges, and the fact that said compartment has thin walls and is open or provided with 'a thin wall or an opening (5) or recess at the end near said cavity to accelerate the combustion of said secondary initiating explosive charge so as to create a shock wave which causes detonation said basic secondary explosive charge, and an orifice (4) which allows said secondary initiating explosive charge to be ignited by means of the ignition element (9). Thanks to the special compartment configuration the detonator is very versatile compared to the non-primary explosive detonators known until now. Also disclosed is a separate initiator element having the structure of the compartment described above. |
