abstract An article of manufacture, for example an electrical conductor, as on the surface of a metal part an adherent, dense refractory keying layer and, on the keying layer a further electrically insulating refractory layer that has been formed by a faster deposition method. n The keying layer is preferably formed by a vacuum deposition processing, e.g. sputtering evaporation, ionplat- ing or chemical vapour deposition, and the further refractory layer is preferably formed by a sol-gel deposition method, plasma ashing method, a solution coating method or a plasma spraying method. The articles are particularly suitable for high temperature wires.
