titleOfInvention | Process for the preparation of alpha-hydroxy-alkanoic acids |
abstract | the invention relates to a process for the preparation of α-hydroxy acids of general formula: in which R represents hydrogen or a lower alkyl radical and Cy represents a phenyl, naphthyl or heterocyclic radical, this radical optionally comprising one or more substituents selected from the group formed by lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, lower alkynyl, lower alkoxy and by halogen atoms, process according to which: - an α-monohalogenated ketone of the general formula is treated: in which R and Cy have the same meaning as above and X represents chlorine, bromine or iodine in the presence of an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide, of a non-polar organic solvent selected from an aromatic or alicyclic hydrocarbon and an excess of oxygen, optionally accompanied by an inert gas, at a temperature between the boiling temperature of the reaction medium at atmospheric pressure and 240 ° C. under pressure, - then acidifies the metal salt alkaline formed to obtain the desired acid. |
