abstract A method of producing heterologous proteins compris­nes causing secretion of a heterologous protein into the nperiplasmic space by using, as the gene expression ele­nments, a expression elements of a gram-positive bacterial nstrain and, as the host, a gram-negative bacterial strain. n The invention has thus enabled production of heterolo­ngous proteins in gram-negative bacteria through the use of ngene expression elements of a gram-positive bacterial strain nand has contributed to technology diversification in the field nof genetic engineering. On the occasion of the secretion of nthe heterologous protein into the periplasmic space of ngram-negative bacteria, the signal peptide is cleaved off, nwhereby the protein is obtained in the form of a mature nprotein free of methionine at the N terminal.
