Use of 2-nitroaniline derivatives of the general formula I where R 1 and R 2 are H, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, C 2 -C 4 monohydroxyalkyl or C 3 -C 4 dihydroxyalkyl - provided that R 1 and R 2 are not simultaneously C 1 - C 4 represent alkyl radicals - and X represents one of the radicals alkyl, monohydroxyalkyl, perfluoroalkyl or halogen, as a direct-coloring dye in hair colorants. The dyes of the formula have favorable physiological properties. When the substituent X is varied, they provide all the yellow tones required for coloring, from a bluish lemon yellow to pure yellow and orange. The invention further relates to new 2-nitroaniline derivatives of the general formula in which R a and R b independently of one another denote ethyl, C 2 -C 4 -monohydroxyalkyl or C 3 -C 4 -dihydroxyalkyl if Z = CH 3 , Cl or Br, or else in which R a denotes H, C 2 -C 4 -monohydroxyalkyl or C 3 -C 4 -dihydroxyalkyl and R b represents a radical 2-hydroxyethyl or 2,3-dihydroxypropyl when Z = CH 2 OH or perfluoroalkyl. |
