titleOfInvention | INFRARED SENSITIVE PHOSPHORUS AND ITS PRODUCTION. |
abstract | New compositions of infrared sensitive (stimulable) luminescent materials and their preparation process. The luminescent composition of this invention comprises 1) a basic (host) matrix selected from the group consisting of strontium sulfide, calcium sulfide, strontium selenide, calcium selenide, and a mixture thereof; 2) activators (eg europium and samarium) present in said base matrix to obtain double activated infrared sensitive phosphors; and 3) creep agents (eg CaF2, SrF2, LiF MgF2, SrSO4, SrSO3, NaCl, SrCl2, SrO, etc ...), said base matrix being in a recrystallized form following the firing of the base matrix of double activation and creep under appropriate recrystallization conditions so that part of the base anions namely sulfur, selenium and both sulfur and selenium are replaced by anionic complexes S Se from sulfur and selenium atoms, these anionic complexes forming with the base matrix a homogeneous solid solution so as to obtain a new phosphorus having improved luminescence characteristics and in the form of luminescent crystals. The aforementioned anionic sulfur and selenium complexes can be represented by the formula Sn Sem in which n is between 1 and x and m is between 1 and y, x and y representing the maximum number of rings of atoms possible at the temperature at which anionic complexes are formed. More particularly, in preparing the improved infrared sensitive phosphors of this invention, the aforementioned dual activation and creep base matrix is subjected to a recrystallization heating step in a suitable furnace with an inert atmosphere whereby the matrix of base, due to thermal decomposition, releases particles of anions, namely sulfur or selenium or sulfur and selenium in |
