abstract | Anaerobic fermentation caused by the inoculation, in purified sisal juice, of rumen microorganisms mixed with a saline solution. The process requires pH regulation, an anaerobic environment, a temperature around 37oC and agitation between 50 and 70 rpm for a week. The sapogenins (hecogenin, tigogenin) are purified by crystallization using a solvent composed of ethyl acetate and cyclohexane (1: 1), this process also producing useful secondary compounds, such as ethanol, acetic acid, CO2, H2 and methane. |
