A process for preparing an optically active alcohol derivative of formula (I) (wherein R, represents a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl group, and R 2 represents an imidazol-1-yl group or a 1,2.4-triazol-1-yl group), which comprises asymmetrically reducing a keto compound of formula (II) with a boron hydride reducing agent modified with an optically active amino alcohol of formula (III) (wherein R 3 represents a hydrocarbyl group, R 4 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbyl group, and R 5 represents a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl group). The obtained optically active alcohol derivatives are useful as fungicides, herbicides or plant growth regulators. |
